Residents are encouraged to help Gannawarra Shire Council identify locations where roadside pest and weed are a problem throughout the municipality.
Council is working on the latest version of its Roadside Weeds and Pest Program Control Plan, with the document to determine pest and weed management across the Gannawarra for the next three years.
“Roadside pest and weeds are a major issue for all rural local governments, not just Gannawarra Shire,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“In the past 12 months alone Council has inspected 640 kilometres of roadsides, treating approximately 420 kilometres of land through a variety of mechanical and chemical treatments targeting rabbits, boxthorn, blackberry, Patterson’s curse, prickly pear, and sweet briar.”
To assist with the development of the new control plan, residents are encouraged to visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au/weeds between now and 5pm Thursday, 30 November and list locations where roadside pest and weeds are a concern.
“All feedback provided will assist Council in developing strategies to manage roadside pest and weed infestations, which will be outlined in the final version of the 2023-2026 Gannawarra Shire Roadside Weeds and Pest Program Control Plan,” Mr Rollinson said.
“Council thanks the State Government for providing funding to enable the update of this plan and for these works to be carried out.”
