Entries for the 2024 City of Rockingham Art Prize are now open, with artists from across Western Australia encouraged to enter the competition.
Following the success of a relaunched and revitalised Art Prize earlier this year, the competition will return again in 2024 with a prize pool worth more than $20,000.
First Prize will be $10,000 cash and is non-acquisitive; giving the winning artist the opportunity to sell their work at the exhibition. The Small Sculpture Award will return with a prize of $4,000 cash, awarded for an original three-dimensional work, in any media.
The Emerging Artist Award will return, as will the First Nations Artist Award. Both of these prizes will consist of a prize package of $2,000 cash.
Artists across the state are invited to submit work and entry is free. Artworks for all categories can be in any media within the set terms and conditions, excluding installations and video. Finalists will be chosen by an independent selection panel.
The popular Local Resident Award and People’s Choice will return, as well as the expanded opportunity for all artworks to be purchased by the public.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged both emerging and established artists from across WA to enter.
“The City of Rockingham Art Prize plays an important role in promoting and supporting the range of artistic talent in the community and beyond, with finalists’ works to be displayed in a curated exhibition,” Mayor Hamblin said.
Art Prize Curator Sandra Murray said “This prize is solely for WA based artists, and is one of the highest value offered by any WA Council. I encourage artists to enter. We offer a viable platform for artists to see their own artworks in an expertly presented exhibition at the Rockingham Arts Centre in June 2024.”
Entries for the 2024 City of Rockingham Art Prize close 4pm, Friday 16 February 2024.
The Art Prize Exhibition will run from Saturday 15 – Sunday 30 June 2024. For more information, including entry criteria and application forms, visit Art Prize.
