Throughout November the City of Rockingham will be hosting several events and activities for Seniors Week 2023.
WA Seniors Week will run from 12 – 19 November and is an annual event that encourages people of all ages to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of older people in the community.
The City’s Seniors Week events will be highlighted by two workshops provided by international dementia expert Michael Verde, to be held on Tuesday 14 November 2023. Verde’s first workshop Meaning and Dementia will be held from 10am – 11.30am, while the second workshop Dementia Without Loneliness will be held from 1pm – 2.30pm. Both will be hosted at Mary Davies Library and Community Centre in Baldivis.
Other activities on offer for older people in November include a ballroom dance session through the City’s Seniors Social and Wellbeing Program, yoga, a first aid demonstration, a screen printing workshop and a choir extravaganza event.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said there were more than 20 ways older people could get involved, with events occurring in suburbs across the City.
“Nearly 20% of our population are over the age of 65, and the City recognises that they have a very important role to play in our community,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“Seniors Week gives us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate their contributions, and we’ve got a range of events and activities on offer to suit everyone’s interests.
The City’s Seniors Strategy outlines our commitment to our older community members, and we have proudly been a member of the World Health Organisation’s Global Network of Age Friendly Cities and Communities for more than a decade. All workshops and activities during Seniors Week are free but bookings are essential.
