Colac Otway Shire Council’s new Mayor Marg White says that engaging with the community across the municipality will be a focus in her term of leadership.
The Mayoral election was held on Wednesday afternoon with Cr White elected for a 12-month term.
Cr White said she was honoured to be elected to the role Mayor.
“It’s an honour to be elected Mayor and I’m extremely pleased to have the privilege of serving the Colac Otway community in this important role on Council.
“I’d like thank Cr Chris Potter for his commitment to our community and the strong leadership he’s shown as Mayor over the last year,” Cr White said.
Elected to Council in 2020, Cr White is Colac-born and raised, having completed her university education in Melbourne, Cr White moved back to Beeac; now residing in Colac she has spent much of her life involved in the region’s schools, services and community groups.
Prior to serving on Council, Cr White was Colac Area Health’s Community Services Director for more than a decade.
“My career in the health sector provides me with experience in bringing an inclusive approach to Council along with experience in governance, community engagement and communication,” Cr White said.
“Councillors are committed to serving our community and working to deliver programs, projects and services to get the best outcomes for the region; we work well together as a group and bring different skills and experiences to the table.
“I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved in the last three years and we’ll continue to advocate to other tiers of government and local stakeholders to advance projects that benefit the people of Colac Otway.
“It’s the people of the region that make Colac Otway the wonderful place it is and I’m looking forward to meeting more community members to hear your thoughts and aspirations for the shire.”
