Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC), in conjunction with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) and Rural Fire Service, is inviting residents to attend rescheduled fire information sessions at two Toowoomba escarpment locations on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Toowoomba Region Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) chair Cr Geoff McDonald said QFES/Rural Fire Service representatives and Council officers would discuss escarpment fire preparedness after earlier sessions in October were postponed due to the Millmerran area fires.
Information session schedule: Saturday, November 18: 9 to 10am at Leslie Park, Leslie Street in Rangeville; 10.30 to 11.30am at the end of Trafalgar Street, Middle Ridge.
Mayor McDonald said the sessions would provide a summer fire season outlook and offer residents a chance to speak with fire authorities.
“Given that hot and dry conditions are forecast to extend across summer, these sessions will provide a timely update for households along the Toowoomba escarpment,” Mayor McDonald said.
“We’ve seen fires across several parts of the Region in spring already, and it reinforces the necessity for residents to stay informed about the immediate fire risk and how they would respond in an emergency across summer.”
Mayor McDonald said future information sessions were planned for additional sites across the Region, with dates and venues to be advised.
