Mayor’s Message - Friday 10 November
Ballarat (City) 10 Nov 2023

A significant milestone has been reached towards the development of the Continuous Voices Memorial in Ballarat.

The memorial will be a place to acknowledge the truth, trauma and ongoing legacy suffered by victims of sexual abuse across Ballarat and the entire country.

On Friday last week at the Art Gallery of Ballarat we launched a national design competition to identify design professionals to lead collaborative teams to create the memorial.

The memorial will recognise the full extent of the pain and trauma caused by all forms of sexual violence, the space will also be designed to support healing, by continually voicing the conversations for change.

The launch of the competition brief is a monumental milestone and the culmination of years of hard work. It is something that will be recognised many generations.

Having a public space to acknowledge and honour survivors of sexual assault in a peaceful setting will allow for quiet reflection.

I am confident this design competition will deliver a memorial that will provide victims, survivors, and those who support them, with the recognition and respect they deserve.
