Get ready for a dazzling holiday season in Charters Towers as the Christmas Colouring and Lights Competitions are officially open.

Children are invited to unleash their creativity with the Christmas Colouring In Competition, which features three categories for kids aged 12 and under.  Council is encouraging parents to inspire their children to participate in this free competition.

Councillor Graham Lohmann emphasised the significance of keeping children entertained and excited about Christmas through colouring.

“There are exciting prizes, including a lucky draw prize up for grabs, and all entries will be on display at the Excelsior Library from Friday, 15 December”, said Councillor Lohmann.

Entry forms are readily available on Council's website, and hard copies can be obtained from Council's Administration Centre and the Excelsior Library.

Participating in the Christmas Lights Competition is free and you can register through Council's website with the nominated addresses to be included on the Christmas Light Trail Map, ensuring your festive display is shared with the public for all to enjoy.

“Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes and businesses, spreading the Christmas spirit throughout the community.

“Join in the festive fun with your neighbours and light up your own street this holiday season,” continued Councillor Lohmann.

The Christmas Lights Competition has various categories that you can enter, including Best House, Best Nativity Scene and Best Street.

Charters Towers Chamber of Commerce & Mines Inc are once again supporting this initiative, with Best Business Display, and Best Community & Not-For Profit Display.

Entries for both competitions close at 9am on Monday, 11 December 2023, with winners announced on Friday, 15 December 2023.
