You’re never too old to have fun and never too young to have respect.
That’s the motto of the main event on Fremantle’s Seniors Week calendar this year.
The City of Fremantle and Town of East Fremantle are proud to co-host the “Sing, Swing and Mingle” positive ageing event, thanks to a grant from the Department of Communities.
This Friday, at Fremantle Town Hall, students from John Curtin College of the Arts will meet and greet, entertain and serve morning tea to seniors while taking time to mingle and chat.
JCCA students are also visiting local aged care facilities throughout WA Seniors Week, which runs from 12 to 19 November.
These activities encourage relationship-building between the generations and enhance overall wellbeing for both old and young people in our community.
The second event, next Thursday, is “Dementia, without loneliness” presented by international guest speaker Michael Verde at the Fremantle Park and Community Centre.
The audience will learn to identify common factors contributing to the emotional isolation of people with dementia-related cognitive impairments and hear about person-centred communication to mitigate emotional isolation.
Both events are fully booked.
Lastly, congratulations to the City of Fremantle’s Ambassador Program which was a finalist in the WA Seniors Awards, in the Age Friendly Local Government category.
The Program is open to all ages, however the current cohort of 53 volunteers is aged between 63 and 85 years.
It ensures not only the operation of the Fremantle Visitor Centre, but the positive social, emotional and mental influences it provides to the participants.
