Gannawarra Shire Council has confirmed its meeting schedule for 2024, with meetings to be held in Cohuna for the first time since 2021 and Koondrook for the first time since 2016.
Eleven scheduled meetings will be held between February 2024 and December 2024, with the Cohuna Community Meeting Room to host the April and October meetings, with the July meeting occurring at the Koondrook Senior Citizens Centre. All other meetings will be held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre.
“My fellow Councillors and I are excited to see Council meetings return to our smaller communities, with these gatherings the best opportunity to see our democratic process in action,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.
“Our monthly meetings enable Councillors to consider and make decisions on matters of public interest, including, but not limited to, financial matters, planning, policies and projects.”
All Council meetings will be held from 6pm on the third Wednesday of each month, except for the June meeting. This meeting will occur from 6pm on Wednesday, 26 June to ensure the meeting does not clash with the Australian Local Government Association’s National General Assembly in Canberra.
A meeting to elect the next Mayor of Gannawarra Shire will occur between the October 2024 and November 2024 meetings, with the date of this election to be determined following the declaration of the 2024 Gannawarra Shire Council elections.
“Any changes to our meeting arrangements, including the time and location of meetings, will be promoted via Council’s Facebook page, website, Gannawarra News and Gannawarra Connect publications,” Mayor Stanton said.
For those unable to attend any of Council’s meetings, a video of proceedings will be available to view at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/meetings within 24 hours after the completion of the meeting.
