On Sunday 3 December 2023 from 11am – 2pm the City of Rockingham will host a special community open day at Mike Barnett Sports Complex (MBSC) to celebrate the facility’s 40th anniversary.
Located on the corner of Dixon Road and Goddard Street, MBSC was officially opened in late 1983 and has become the home of basketball, netball and indoor sports in Rockingham.
To celebrate 40 years since MBSC opened, the City is inviting community members to a free open day where they can try a number of activities and sports on offer from local sporting associations.
Sports available at the open day will include basketball, netball, table tennis, badminton, and over 50s dance and group fitness classes.
This 40th birthday event is the latest in a long line of key anniversaries for several of the City’s leisure facilities in 2023.
In February the Rockingham Aquatic Centre turned 50, in April the Aqua Jetty celebrated its 20th anniversary, while in late October the Autumn Centre hosted a 30th birthday party for its members.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin thanked the community for its longstanding support of MBSC, and encouraged people to take advantage of the opportunities on offer at the open day.
“Since MBSC opened its doors 40 years ago the facility has grown to be one of the most significant leisure facilities in our region,” Mayor Hamblin said.
Thousands of community members of all ages have enjoyed the chance to play basketball, netball and a range of other sports at MBSC over the years. Reaching 40 years is a significant milestone and the City is looking forward to what the next 40 years has in store as the facility continues to evolve. For more information on the 40th birthday event at MBSC visit What's On.
