Proposed business plan for Fremantle Public Golf Course
City of Fremantle 23 Nov 2023

An exciting new golf experience could be coming to Fremantle, after Council supported the advertising of a new business plan for Fremantle Public Golf Course.

The plan includes the addition of a multi-level driving range, known as 'LaunchPad Golf', which would be the first of its kind in Australia.

The plan also proposes that the whole facility, including the existing 9-hole course and Pro Shop, is managed by Belgravia Leisure, who were named as the preferred applicant following an EOI process.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the business plan proposed to complement the existing golf experience with a significant investment in new facilities as well as the new driving range, which would be located at the south-west corner of Booyeembara Park.

"We believe this facility could complement the nearby Boo Park Mountain Bike Trail and add to Fremantle’s reputation as a recreation destination."

Mayor Fitzhardinge added that the dual strategy caters for both existing users as well as attracting new users who may not otherwise try golf.

"We can see from examples interstate and overseas that this type of facility is more than just a driving range, it's an entertainment experience that blends traditional golf with technology and a social experience. In other locations it has broadened the appeal of the sport to a younger audience."

The business plan addresses key points raised by Council in June this year, in particular, that it will ensure that the public golf course remains affordable, accessible and welcoming for all.

"We are constantly striving to improve the City's sporting and recreational facilities which are used by people who live, work and visit Fremantle."

"We would love to hear what the community thinks about this plan," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

The City of Fremantle is seeking community feedback on the business plan until Friday 19 January 2024 through its My Say page: mysay.fremantle.wa.gov.au
