We were excited to welcome students to the 2023 STEM Community Partnerships Program Showcase last week.
This initiative highlights STEM careers and opportunities for young people and promotes a STEM-skilled workforce for our local industries.
Students were tasked with addressing challenging real-life scenarios identified by local industries.
The Yass High School STEM class took on the CSIRO Challenge Statement which targeted the impact of flooding on the Yass Valley community.
Students built a wireless sensor network that reports environmental conditions, flood events and water levels in real time to a website and phone app. Their problem solving was deeply admirable and they should be very proud of their project.
The Council is committed to supporting existing and future communities, including our young people - our future thinkers, innovators and scientists.
Thank you to all those involved in the project including: Yass High School, Cingulan, CSIRO, the NSW Government, the Science and Industry Endowment Fund and the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
We look forward to seeing where STEM takes these students in future years.
