Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund activated for damage caused by Mariginiup bushfire

Presiding Chair of the LMDRF and City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the LMDRF Board met to determine immediate support for affected people in the aftermath of the bushfire.

Donations for the appeal will open on Monday 27 November and can be made at www.appealswa.org.au.

The Board has also determined an initial relief payment of $5,000 per home will be made available for each of the 18 homes destroyed in the bushfire and an initial relief payment of $3,000 per home will be made available for homes which have been categorized as suffering “major damage”.

Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said, “The events of this week have been distressing for everyone and we know the WA community again want to again show their support for those who need it urgently. The LMDRF is the place the people of WA have always trusted to be able to ensure their donation goes directly to those who need it.

“The LMDRF Board wanted to make initial relief payments available to assist the residents of the impacted properties as they deal with having to find temporary accommodation.”

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken thanked the Board for their decision to activate the fund.

“The activation of the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund will have a tremendous impact on the families who have been affected by this devastating bushfire," she said.

“We have already received offers of assistance and requests to donate from hundreds of people across Perth, and I want to thank each and every single person who has pitched in to help our community.”
