Gannawarra Shire Council management recently met with the Department of Transport and Planning Loddon Mallee leadership team to discuss road-related priorities.

The meeting enabled both organisations to learn about key matters and develop strategies to work together to address local issues.

“Council thanks the Department of Transport and Planning for taking the time to come to Kerang and hear our priorities,” Council Chief Executive Officer Geoff Rollinson said.

“By working together, Council aims to improve the way our residents and other motorists can access key services and remain connected during times of emergencies.”

Key matters that were discussed during the meeting included:

Road infrastructure project priorities; Road maintenance priorities; and Fire preparedness activity along local major roads, including the slashing of vegetation.

Department of Transport and Planning Executive Director (Loddon Mallee and Hume), Anthony Judd said it was a productive meeting and looks forward to the teams continuing to work closely together to ensure the Gannawarra community can get where they need to go safely and efficiently.

“Road maintenance and fire preparedness activities are well underway across the state’s arterial road network with a $770 million road maintenance blitz in progress,” Mr Judd said.

“Now the weather has warmed up, the Gannawarra community can expect to see crews completing works at multiple locations on the Murray Valley Highway and Loddon Valley Highway, as well as crews completing roadside mowing.

“We’ve also finished rebuilding a one-kilometre section of the Loddon Valley Highway in Appin South earlier this month to a create a safer and more durable road surface for the Gannawarra community.”
