The City of Fremantle is calling for community input on two key infrastructure policies that deal with traffic calming and narrow streets.
The purpose of this exercise is to hear from residents, businesses and visitors about the challenges being faced across Fremantle and then look at how we can work more collaboratively on possible solutions.
The traffic calming policy helps determine what the issues might be in an area and then typically aims to slow traffic, particularly in residential areas. Treatments include measures like speed humps, roundabouts and chicanes etc.
The narrow streets policy addresses issues that arise in our narrower streets, it looks at access, parking and pedestrian safety and may include measures like one-way flows to improve traffic congestion.
City of Fremantle Infrastructure Director Graham Tattersall said while the policies are quite separate, they are interconnected.
"The idea is to adopt and clearer and more consistent approach to these policies, by hearing from the community concurrently about the issues they're facing with cycling and walking, driving, navigating and parking in our suburbs.
"The aim of the initiative is to improve road safety, enhance the functionality of streets and create more pleasant and liveable neighbourhoods.
"We want to hear about people's experiences in Fremantle, positive or negative. We also want to hear their ideas, thoughts and examples of what might work better.
"There will always be limits to what we can deliver, but receiving this detailed feedback from the community will assist us in making informed policy decisions," Mr Tattersall said.
The community is encouraged to visit the My Say Freo website: mysay.fremantle.wa.gov.au where they can complete an online survey, make comments on an interactive map and even request a session on their street with the project team.
There will also be drop-in sessions in mid-January 2024 where members of the public can have face-to-face conversations with City officers.
Survey submissions close on Thursday 1 February 2024.
