A heart-warming community project in Parramatta has captured the imagination of NSW arts industry stalwarts, with Parramatta Artists’ Studios (PAS) announced as a winner at the Museums & Galleries NSW 2023 Imagine Awards.
‘Being Together: Parramatta Yearbook’ received the Engagement Programs award for large organisations – one of 14 nominees from across the state – at an awards ceremony held at the Art Gallery of NSW.
The prized work by artist Cherine Fahd was produced and presented in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia as part of its C3West program. The project celebrated our local community through photography and portraiture in an outdoor exhibition at Centenary Square from August to October 2022.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said it’s a fitting tribute for the team at PAS.
“We are the heart of Sydney and a community that embraces all people from all backgrounds,” Cr Esber said.
“Artist Cherine Fahd really captured what we are about and how Parramatta has morphed from a suburban centre into a diverse metropolis.
“We have so many talented people in our City and hope this win inspires more to look west of the Harbour Bridge to build their creative skills.
“I congratulate Cherine and Parramatta Artists’ Studio on winning this award.”
The Imagine Awards are held each year by Museums & Galleries of NSW, highlighting the resilience, innovation and creativity of museums, galleries and Indigenous cultural centres across NSW.
