This holiday season, the spirit of giving shines brightly in East Perth, as Mission Australia prepares for its 48th annual Christmas Lunch in the Park event at Wellington Square. Renowned for providing solace and support to some of Western Australia's most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and families, this year's event is set to be more than just a gathering; it represents a beacon of hope and community solidarity.
Scheduled for Christmas Day, the free Christmas Lunch in the Park is far more than a festive meal. It encompasses a comprehensive care package for attendees that includes a lunch, warm showers, haircuts, laundry services, referral services, and counselling, all aimed at offering a much-needed respite for those facing hardship. A unique aspect of this event is the distribution of packs of new socks and undies for children and adults, adding a touch of love and warmth.
Mayor Gary Mack and Georgina Westgarth from Mission Australia recently demonstrated their support at the Cambridge Library. Dressed in festive Christmas headgear, they added new socks and undies to the collection bin. This symbolic gesture extends beyond a simple donation; it signifies a message of empathy with those in need.
Residents are encouraged to participate in this initiative by donating new packs of socks and undies for any age group, until December 21. The Town’s Administration Centre and the Cambridge Library are hosting collection bins for these donations. It is important to note that this appeal specifically requests new items, in their original packaging, to ensure dignity and respect for the recipients.
This initiative serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges many in our community face. Although the festive season is often a time of joy and celebration, spent with family and friends, for some it can also bring heightened vulnerability. Contributing to this appeal offers Town of Cambridge residents a chance to have a positive impact on the lives of others.
As we count down to Christmas Day, the community is invited to join Mayor Mack and Georgina in this act of kindness. Every pair of socks and/or undies contributes not only to physical comfort but also conveys a message of caring.
Please drop off your donations at the Town's Administration Centre or the Cambridge Library. Let's unite to ensure that this Christmas, warmth and care extend to every corner of our community.
