A Joyful Gathering

Last Thursday, the Moree Plains Shire Council Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre played host for the Elders Christmas Luncheon.

Decorated in smiles and festive joy, elders from our community gathered at the Dhiiyaan Centre for a day full of celebration, musical entertainment, dance, secret Santa gift exchanges, lucky door and raffle draws, and a sumptuous feast, all enveloped in the heartwarming embrace of shared traditions.

The St. Philomena's School Dance Class showcased a spectacular performance of cultural dancing for the Elders, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance. The dancers brought a mesmerising display of tradition and skill, adding a special touch to the Elders Christmas Luncheon.

Raquel Clarke, from the Dhiiyaan, expressed gratitude, emphasising that the success of the event wouldn't have been possible without the invaluable support from Legges South Moree Butchery and Pius X Corporation. Their contributions played a crucial role in ensuring the Elders Christmas Luncheon was a success, underlining the importance of community collaboration and generosity.

Raquel shared “I even had a customer in Legges Butchery make a donation when they heard we were holding an event for the Elders."

This gesture from the community not only reflects generosity but also signifies a genuine respect and acknowledgment for the Elders.

Merry Christmas from the Dhiiyaan Elders Group.
