Lithgow City Council has received funding approval for the first phase of works required to reopen Browns Gap Road to a single lane of traffic.
The Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham said, “The Council is very aware of the impact that the closure of Browns Gap Road has had on the local community,” “Work in these types of settings, with steep slopes and underground former mines is difficult, and it can be dangerous. This required detailed design and careful construction. It has delayed commencement of the works.”
The Mayor also said, “The Council has already appointed a Lithgow-based specialist earthworks contractor to undertake the work. This has the benefit of most of the funding for the work staying in the city”.
It is anticipated that work will commence early in the new year. This will include upslope rock and debris removal, the installation of monitoring equipment and concrete barriers.
Once this stage of the works is complete, the Council will be able to partially open the road and safely study the works needed downslope of the road to complete the remediation. Updates are available through the following link: https://council.lithgow.com/browns-gap-road-community-update/
