Construction of The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra – a new contemporary space for new and emerging community programs – has reached a key milestone.
Gannawarra Shire Council has started advertising the tender for this $2.5 million transformational project, to be built at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library.
Supported by funding from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the State Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra will feature a media lab and spaces that will provide flexibility for public meeting and emerging library and community programs.
Other features include digital art projection that can display on the external building glass and new landscaping to the surrounding areas, including an indigenous garden and ceremonial fire pit celebrating links to the Gannawarra’s indigenous culture.
“Council is excited to be advertising for tenders for this amazing project, which once completed will be a unique attraction for the Gannawarra that will enable users to connect, collaborate, create and celebrate together,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra will be unique to the area, thanks to the venue’s features that have become commonplace in major regional and metropolitan areas.”
Residents were able to help Council with developing the project’s designs during August and September 2022, resulting in the final designs that have been presented to prospective tender applicants.
Tender submissions close at 4pm Friday, 12 January 2024, which can be completed by visiting www.gsc.vic.gov.au/tenders
“Council looks forward to potentially approving the tender for this project in early 2024, with construction to begin soon after,” Mr Rollinson said.
