Christmas Holidays at the Libraries

13 December, 2023

School holidays are fast approaching and there are plenty of activities for kids of all ages to do at the local libraries.

In the week before Christmas, Santa and his elves have one final mission to complete before returning to the North Pole to prepare for their busiest night of the year. Santa has put aside some time for a special Christmas Storytime at Lithgow Library on Wednesday the 20 December at 10.30am. There will be Christmas songs, books, dancing, and lots of Christmas cheer.

Santa has asked the help of two of his most trusted elves to prepare and deliver the Wallerawang and Portland Library Storytimes. Wallerawang Christmas Storytime hosted by the elves is on Tuesday the 19 December at 10.30am and Portland Christmas Storytime is on Tuesday the 19 December at 11.30am.

Leading into Christmas there are after school craft activities on Thursday and some Friday afternoons and in January following the Christmas shutdown there will be a variety of holiday activities across the library service. For a program of events head to the library webpage https://library.lithgow.com/ or follow Lithgow City Council Libraries on Facebook. All the above activities are free, and no bookings are required.

There will be a special event on Tuesday the 23 January with local author Christine Bailey and daughter Cindy holding a unique and exciting workshop about a local treasure, The Purple Copper Butterfly!

Come and enjoy a morning of dancing, songs, craft and stories with Christine and Cindy as exploring the magic of the lifecycles of a butterfly, special challenges and puzzles. This activity is appropriate for children ages 3-12 years old, however parental assistance for children under 5 with the craft related activity is required. This workshop is FREE and will run from 10.30am-12 noon. Bookings are required for this workshop as numbers are limited and can made by contacting the library on 63529100.
