Recently, council completed public consultation for the proposed Major Planning Scheme Amendment No. 7 (Business Improvement and Innovation) to the Central Highlands Regional Council Planning Scheme 2016. This proposal incorporates a broad suite of changes, intended to improve and support innovation in agriculture, emerging technologies, red tape reduction and supporting tourism.
After extensive community consultation and direct engagement with key stakeholders, followed by ana in-depth review and analysis of all submissions, revisions were made to the proposed amendment including:
rolling back the rezoning proposal for 3 lots in Capella (Lots 3, 4 and 5 on SP273888) and 2 lots in Emerald (Lot 30 on DSN836334 and Lot 29 on DSN805397); and the removal of the proposed Tourism and Ecotourism precincts.‘This revised amendment seeks to balance the varied interest across the region, including supporting both the tourism and agriculture sector, though a number of avenues,’ said General Manager Communities John McDougall.
‘It’s a great example of Council listening to community and acting accordingly.’ he continued.
On Wednesday 13 December at a general council meeting, council voted to endorse the public consultation report and the final draft of the amendment.
