Mayor sends Christmas wishes to Corangamite residents

Corangamite Shire services will take a break over the festive season but officers will be on call to support the community.

The Civic Centre, depots and some services will close from 1 pm on Friday 22 December and re-open at 8:30 am on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Residents with urgent issues can call Council on 5593 7100 to be connected to an on-call officer.

Mayor Kate Makin wished residents a safe and prosperous festive period.

“On behalf of Councillors and Council staff I would like to wish all residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” she said.

“The summer holiday period is a great opportunity to spend quality time with family and loved ones.

“If you know anyone who might not have loved ones nearby, a friendly Christmas greeting over the fence or down the street can make all the difference to their sense of belonging and their enjoyment of life.

We’ve already had some beautiful summer weather, but with a hotter than average weather forecast, please be sun smart and remember to stay hydrated.

“Keep an eye on children and elderly people, especially if they live alone.”

Cr Makin encouraged the community to be careful on the roads and waterways, and stay alert for fire danger warnings.

“Download the VicEmergency app to get emergency notifications on your phone and, if the worst does happen, keep an eye on emergency.vic.gov.au for the latest updates,” she said.

“There is also a wealth of information available on our website, corangamite.vic.gov.au.

Cr Makin said the holiday period was a chance to look after ourselves, rest and recover after a hectic year.

“We’re looking forward to coming back after the break with renewed energy to continue delivering quality services for our residents in 2024.”
