Capital Works Program Update - November 2023

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken during November 2023 by Federation Council’s Operations Works teams. 

Boree Creek Road 900-meter reconstruction

Section from 6km to 8km, new gravel pavement, second layer 100mm. Final trim of and sealing of 2km to 8km section.

Balldale Road 8km reconstruction – LRCI Grant

Lime stabilization has been completed for the 900m section of the works. Gravel works commenced however were delayed due to wet weather. Once gravel is placed and compacted, sealing works can be completed.

Shoulder Rehabilitation Back Berrigan Road

Shoulder rehabilitation work on Back Berrigan Road was completed. The works included rehabilitation of a 1m wide strip with a 400m seal.

Footpath Maintenance Program

Footpath repair program commenced, focusing on trip hazards and high pedestrian traffic areas.

RLRRP Grant – Shoulder Rehabilitation

Council secured funds from NSW Government for Regional Local Rural Road Repair. Program to undertake road repairs on sealed and unsealed roads after the floods in late 2022. Council is using this grant to fund Shoulder Rehabilitation on various roads throughout the LGA.

Works ongoing in November – Back Berrigan Road, Merton Road.

TfNSW – Ordered Works

Line marking of 3 roundabouts Federation Avenue, Sanger Street and Honour Avenue after asphalt resurfacing.

Corowa Landfill

A new hardstand area for concrete and bricks using recycled crushed concrete from the site has been constructed.

Table drain maintenance

Table drain maintenance focussed on customer requests during winter. Please Note: Works were carried out only in zones where no impact can be made on the Sloanes Froglet (between April and October breeding season).

Sealed Roads

Line marking of intersection hold lines, loading zones, disabled carparks in Corowa. Line marking Howlong Medical Centre carpark. Numerous customer requests for pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads have been received and actioned with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jet Master patching truck.

Work is continuous on all roads such as: Federation Way south/north, Jerilderie Road, Boree Road, Urana/Boree/Morundah/Oakland and Rand township and rural roads.

Heavy Trucks

Boree Creek – bulk earthworks and gravel carting. Back Berrigan Road – gravel carting for shoulder rehabilitation. Federation Way(Urana Morandah Road)- Gravel Carting Balldale Road – bulk earthworks and gravel carting RLRRP – gravel carting for shoulder rehabilitation Carting stone for patching trucks and JetPatcher Carting excess spoil from Mulwala to Corowa Landfill for cover & capping

TfNSW – RMCC

Maintenance works under the RMCC agreement continued in November. Yarrawonga – Mulwala bridge cleaning ready for line marking. 

Quarries

Planning is well under way for the next phase of blast and crushing at the Balldale and Daysdale quarries. The gravels will be used for upcoming RLRRP and capital works programs. Awaiting contractor.

Slasher

North: Burndale Road, Four Corners Road, Bynedale Road, Corowa Oaklands Road, Back Berrigan Road, Clear Hills Road and Bidgeemia Road. Slashing activities will cease in the month of December with operations moving onto table drain maintenance and heavy patching activities.

South: Bull Plain Road, Boat Rock Road, Rennie Township, Savernake Township, Savernake Road, Sloanes Siding Road, Tocumwal Road.
