City donates $100,000 to support people affected by Mariginiup bushfire

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said it was an easy decision for Council to make.

“The Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund will have a tremendous impact on the families who have been affected by this devastating bushfire,” she said.

“My fellow Council Members and I are pleased to be able to do something to help and feel comfortable knowing 100 per cent of this donation will go directly to those who need it.”

The appeal was activated by the LMDRF Board on Sunday 26 November, in response to the destruction and property damage caused by the bushfire.

An initial relief payment of $5,000 per home has been guaranteed for each of the 18 homes destroyed in the bushfire, as well as an initial relief payment of $3,000 per home for homes categorised as suffering “major damage”.

The City of Perth donates administrative services to the LMDRF and seeks no reimbursement for the costs associated with providing support to the Fund.

As well as the LMDRF donation, the City of Wanneroo is supporting affected residents through the Community Recovery Centre, located at the Wanneroo Civic Centre.

A range of support services can be accessed at the Centre, including the Department of Communities, Australian Red Cross, Emergency Services Western Australia, Legal Aid as well as assistance from the City of Wanneroo.

The recovery centre is open from 12pm to 6pm Mondays to Thursdays, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays, until Thursday 21 December.
