A recovery group has been activated to support communities impacted by flooding caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
The Cairns Local Disaster Management Group established its Recovery Committee to direct support to affected businesses and residents.
Recovery Committee Chair Cr Rhonda Coghlan said the group would focus its efforts on Yorkeys Knob, Holloways Beach, Machans Beach, Kamerunga, Lake Placid and Caravonica.
“We have seen the resilience our city and its amazing community spirit,” she said.
“Cairns has been through disasters before, and we will work together to get through his one.”
“Council is prioritising recovery efforts, and I am confident we will bounce back stronger than ever.”
The committee is working with Australian and State Governments, as well as community groups and not-for-profits to support the community.
There will also be a focus on addressing economic impacts by working with local industry stakeholders such as Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Advance Cairns and Cairns Chamber of Commerce.
The Cairns Disaster Dashboard, which provides real-time updates on road conditions, weather warnings and emergency news, has been converted into a recovery hub for the community.
