Night matches of football, netball and tennis will become a more common occurrence around Edward River Council with the green light being given for the installation of upgraded lighting at Hardinge Street oval and netball courts, Memorial Park main oval and netball courts and Blighty Recreation Reserve oval and netball/tennis courts.
The upgrades to the existing lighting will improve the overall experience for both players and spectators and will allow the venues to host night matches and training sessions.
The tender has been awarded to DeAraugo and Lea Pty Ltd at a lump sum tender price of $1,408,275 + GST.
DeAraugo and Lea Pty Ltd are a medium sized electrical company, with at least 12 years’ experience in delivering similar sports lighting projects.
They have completed over 50 lighting projects for councils across Victoria since 2015.
DeAraugo and Lea Pty Ltd are set to commence the works immediately, and the project will use local subcontractors where possible.
Mayor Cr Peta Betts is delighted to see the lighting projects receive the go ahead and provide more sporting opportunities to the region.
“The upgraded lighting will give local sporting teams the opportunity to play more matches in front of more people, train into the evenings, and will offer players, young and old, the exciting experience of playing under lights,” said Cr Betts.
The lighting levels on the ovals will be as per AFL guidelines, whilst the lights at the netball facilities will be upgraded to Victorian Netball Association standards.
