A mix of new and long-running community-led events will receive a boost from more than $108,500 allocated in round one of Redland City Council’s 2023/24 Sponsorship Program.

Mayor Karen Williams said the funding would support seven local organisations.

“Every year Council sponsorship helps organisations and community groups make a difference on Redlands Coast through a diverse range of events, projects and initiatives that benefit our community,” Cr Williams said.

“In round one of this financial year’s program we are excited to support Queensland Touch Football, who will be bringing the Junior State Cup to Redlands Coast for the first time in July 2024.

“Council is proud to be a major event partner for the event, which will see more than 3500 junior touch football players and their families converge on our city for three days of competition.

“Other sporting events to receive sponsorship are the 2024 Straddie Salute Triathlon and the Queensland Under 14 Boys and Girls Softball Championship.

“Council is also sponsoring a number of community events including the YMCA Food Fiesta and the STAR Community Services annual community celebration.

“These events not only enrich our community, but also provide economic benefits, attracting visitors from far and wide and showcasing our naturally-wonderful Redlands Coast.”

Three of the seven successful applicants in round one also qualified for additional funding to support Quandamooka cultural awareness and inclusion activities.

The next round of sponsorship opens in February 2024.
