The Town of Bassendean will be progressing projects to reduce the Town’s groundwater use, with funding from the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Grants Program.
Sports turf injection systems will be installed at Bassendean Oval, Jubilee Reserve and Ashfield Reserve, commencing with Bassendean Oval in 2023/24. The systems will allow wetting agent and fertiliser to be applied through irrigation systems, which will reduce water demand and improve plant health.
Recreational park eco-zoning is also planned. Eco-zoning transforms underutilised turf areas into native gardens or space for trees, significantly reducing water use. The Town will be conducting community consultation for the proposed sites at Mary Crescent Reserve and Success Hill Reserve.
The Town has secured $200,000 in funding over three years to help reduce the Town’s groundwater use through the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Grants Program. The Program is a joint initiative between the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and Water Corporation, to support local governments to reduce their groundwater use.
