Dinner to celebrate local sporting clubs

The role sporting clubs play within the Gannawarra Shire will be celebrated at a special Gannawarra Shire Council and Northern District Community Health-organised dinner, occurring in Kerang on Thursday, 15 February.

Hosted by former 10 News First journalist and Sports Tonight presenter, Brad McEwan, the event will recognise the role volunteers play in communities during times of crisis and the importance of sport and recreation clubs as the fabric of small communities.

The dinner event forms part of the ongoing commitment to acknowledge the role sport and recreation clubs and organisations played during response and recovery efforts from the October-December 2022 floods.

“The Gannawarra Sporting Club Dinner will provide a fantastic opportunity to bring our local sporting club leaders together to connect and to hear from Brad, who is passionate about sport and recreation and the future of small towns,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Brad grew up in Lockington and after stepping away from the sports news desk in 2018 he now spends his time as an ambassador for a number of charities and passing on his experience and knowledge,”

While the event is focused on sporting clubs, other Gannawarra residents interested in attending are welcome to do so.

The event will feature live music and the chance for one sporting club to win a $250 sports equipment voucher for their club.

Funding for this event is supported by the Murray Primary Health Network and Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
