Two Australia Day Awards ambassadors welcomed for regional celebrations

Central Highlands Regional Council is pleased to announce the attendance of two distinguished Australia Day ambassadors for the award ceremonies in Blackwater and Emerald. Council is honoured to welcome the dynamic husband and wife duo, Dr Dimity Dornan AO and Peter Dornan AM. 

Dr Dimity Dornan AO will be joining the award ceremony in Emerald. She is a pioneering social entrepreneur and bionics advocate and founded Hear and Say in 1992, a leading organization for deaf children. She is also the founder and chair of Bionics Gamechangers Australia, extending her impactful work in bionic hearing devices. Dr Dornan extends her impactful work from the bionic ear to new devices and aims to revolutionize bionics solutions for various medical conditions. Honoured as the Queensland Senior Australian of the Year in 2018, Dr Dornan remains dedicated to promoting the bionics industry and bringing innovative solutions to those with previously untreatable medical problems. 

Peter Dornan AM, will be joining the award ceremony in Blackwater. He is the director of the Toowong Rehabilitation Centre and brings over 50 years of experience as a physiotherapist specializing in sports medicine. Acknowledged with the 2000 Australian Sports Medal, he is not only a dedicated Men’s Health activist but also played a crucial role in founding the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in 1998. In addition to his healthcare achievements, Peter is a respected classical sculptor, honoured with an appointment to the Order of Australia in 2002 and named the Queensland Senior Australian of the Year in 2020.

These distinguished ambassadors will be actively involved in various aspects of the Australia Day Awards ceremonies, adding a special touch to our celebration of outstanding community members.
