Celebrations will be held throughout the Gannawarra on Friday, 26 January 2024 to mark Australia Day.
Community groups are organising festivities at Barham/Koondrook, Cohuna, Kerang, Leitchville, Murrabit and Quambatook, with Gannawarra Shire Council providing funding to support these popular events.
“Australia Day provides residents with the opportunity to come together and celebrate our successes and what makes Australia a great place to live,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.
“These gatherings will also be a great opportunity for residents to connect following the recent storms that have impacted communities across the Gannawarra.”
Celebrations will include a breakfast or barbecue dinner, depending on the time of day, a flag raising ceremony and recognition of community award winners.
Council’s 2024 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year will also be recognised at their local celebration, with a Civic Reception announcing the winners of these prestigious accolades to be announced on Wednesday, 24 January from 6.30pm and livestreamed via www.gsc.vic.gov.au/Australia_Day_Awards
