Wyndham City is proud to announce Win Moe Htet Aung as the One Wyndham recipient for January.
Win is a positive and enthusiastic leader who loves helping others in the Wyndham community.
Win volunteers in the Karen community and helps out in range of initiatives including organising the popular Melbourne Karen Buddhist Association’s Youth Sport Tournament, where he was awarded the best leadership performance award and has played an integral role in organising the build of the Karen Buddhist Temple project.
Win came to Australia after living in a Refugee camp for over a decade - half of his life. He has overcome many challenges and is a positive role model, providing young people from the Karen community with hope.
He volunteers in the community, organising youth activities for vulnerable young people in the Karen community including the Friday night drop-in program ‘Karuna’. He also organises ‘We Are One’ – a youth soccer team that engages and encourages participation from young people in vulnerable communities. Win is a quiet achiever, humble and gets things done without seeking accolades.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Jennie Barrera said: “Wyndham City appreciates Win’s dedication and commitment to the Wyndham community through his volunteering work in the Karen community. Win is inspiring and a positive influence on his peers and his contribution has made a real difference.”
One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 to 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.
Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘Young Person of the Month’.
Winners are awarded a $300 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
