Liverpool will celebrate Australia Day in the traditional way on January 26 with a public BBQ featuring exotic food favourites - and the much-loved Aussie snag - as the most culturally diverse community in the country celebrates our national milestone.

“We’re firing up the barbie and inviting everyone to Bigge Park in the Liverpool CBD to join us from 5pm to 10pm for food, fun and entertainment,” says Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun.

There’s also a public screening of the Australian classic film Blinky Bill to delight the children and round off the day.

Mr Mannoun said Liverpool’s celebrations would reflect the community’s cultural diversity.

“Our cultural backgrounds will be united as we gather under a symbolic green and gold umbrella to give thanks for being part of this wonderful, unique colourful country with its engaging and positive future,” he said.

“We know what a blessing it is to live here.

“We see Australia Day uniting us in a celebration of what we have, the freedoms we enjoy and the promise of a bright peaceful future.’

Liverpool Council’s Australia Day celebration will embrace our diverse cultural backgrounds and the local indigenous community.

The evening celebration will be preceded by a citizenship ceremony on Australia Day morning to welcome new citizens.

The evening menu will be in the hands of talented BBQ masters offering delicious variations of established dishes plus some exciting new ones, including Birria Tacos, Assyrian BBQ, cevapi, Nasi Lemak, Lebanese grill and Filipino style skewers.

Entertainment and live music will run from 5pm until 8pm as a lead-in to the movie.

There will also be games and water play in the park for children as well as face painting.
