The Toowoomba Region Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has this morning (Monday, 29 January, 2024) moved to alert following the Bureau of Meteorology issuing an initial flood watch for the region.
Chair Geoff McDonald said the LDMG had moved to alert with the BOM issuing the initial flood watch and advice that further heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to develop over central, southern and southeast Queensland during the next 48 hours.
“The Toowoomba LDMG stands ready to support the region should flooding occur.
“BOM are expecting areas of potentially heavy rain over the Toowoomba region on Monday and into Tuesday and that could lead to minor flooding in the Condamine River as well as the risk of flash flooding,” Chair McDonald said.
“Residents need to be aware of the weather forecasts and make any preparations in accordance with the latest advice when it is issued.
“Motorists are reminded to heed the simple message, ‘If it’s flooded, forget it’. Please observe any warning signs and drive to the conditions.”
Chair McDonald said the LDMG had made sand available at various locations across the region.
He said residents would need to bring their own sandbags and shovels to fill their bags. (Please only take what you need. Assistance is available for people with mobility issues by contacting the SES)
