The Toowoomba Region Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) remains on alert this morning (Tuesday, 30 January, 2024) following overnight rainfall and the potential for further storm activity today.

Chair Geoff McDonald said the LDMG would remain at alert but that the Toowoomba District Disaster Management Group had moved to ‘Lean Forward’ in support of the current flooding situation in the Lockyer Valley.

“The Toowoomba Region LDMG remains at alert after the region only received moderate rainfall overnight with Oakey recording 34.2mm, Toowoomba 40.8mm and Millmerran 24.8mm.

“The District Disaster Management Group has moved to ‘lean forward’ and our thoughts are with those residents outside of the Toowoomba region currently experiencing flooding with our neighbours in both the Lockyer Valley and Western Downs having been impacted overnight and this morning.

“BOM are expecting further storm activity across the Toowoomba region on Tuesday and that could lead to minor flooding in the Condamine River as well as the risk of flash flooding.

“The Condamine River has a current Minor Flood Warning. Rainfall totals of up to 140mm were recorded across the catchment and rises in the levels of the river and creeks along its tributaries. Minor flooding is possible to Warwick and likely at Dalby from Tuesday afternoon.

“For the Toowoomba Region, there have been some rises in catchments, however all remain below the minor flood levels” Chair McDonald said.

“Residents need to be aware of the weather forecasts and make any preparations in accordance with the latest advice when it is issued.

“Motorists are reminded to heed the simple message, ‘If it’s flooded, forget it’. Please observe any warning signs and drive to the conditions.”

Chair McDonald said the LDMG had made sand available at various locations across the region.

He said residents would need to bring their own sandbags and shovels to fill their bags. (Please only take what you need. Assistance is available for people with mobility issues by contacting the SES)
