It was fantastic to see the community prepare diligently for the flood event in January, with sandbags collected from six collection points across Greater Shepparton. Sandbags are a single use item and should not be emptied and reused, as they fall apart over time.
Now that the threat of flooding has eased, residents are advised to do the following with their sandbags:
DO
Spread the sand on your lawn or use in the garden Use for landscaping or flower beds Throw out discarded bags (without sand) in your red lid bin Take discarded bags to the Shepparton Resource Recovery CentreDON’T
Reuse sandbags that have been filled with sand Reuse sandbags that have been contaminated by flood waters Dump sandbags in rivers, on nature strips, in public places or roadway guttersIf residents are unable to physically dispose of the sandbags themselves due to a serious injury, disability or being elderly, they can contact Council for assistance by phoning 5832 9700 or email [email protected].
