Lithgow City Council wish to inform that Canine Parvovirus has been detected in our community. This virus is a serious concern for the health of our pets.
Recently young dogs infected with the virus have also been abandoned at the Lithgow Animal Shelter. To ensure the safety of animals already housed at the shelter, and attending staff, Council will be temporarily closing the facility to implement specific hygiene and quarantine measures. The Lithgow Animal Shelter will not be able to receive animals until further notice.
Symptoms of Canine Parvovirus include lethargy, severe vomiting, loss of appetite, and bloody diarrhea. If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms, please contact your local vet immediately.
Let’s work together to keep our community and our pets safe.
