Wanneroo Council votes on former Quinns Rocks Caravan Park site

Council considered the lease agreements as well as responses received as part of the project’s latest public notice period at its December Ordinary Council Meeting.

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said she was pleased to see the project progressing and to have been able to share the finalised plans for the development with the community.

“We’ve had extremely positive responses from residents who’ve watched the updated flythrough video and viewed the proposed layout and design,” she said.

“The proponent has taken feedback on board and implemented several changes.

“Not only does the concept include 1,500m2 of lawn space for the public to use, the design also features improved beach access, a sit-down café and kiosk area, public bike racks, picnic tables and toilet facilities.

“Additionally, we have seen significant progress with regards to the protection of the surrounding bushland reserve.

“I know this bushland is extremely important to our community, and administration is currently in discussions with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage regarding vesting the reserve in the State as Crown land for the purpose of conservation.”

In addition to its environmental sensitivity and community accessibility, the development will generate employment opportunities for local residents.

The City received letters of support for the proposal from Tourism WA and Tourism Council Western Australia, the State’s peak tourism bodies.

Tourism Council Western Australia CEO Evan Hall noted that as a purpose-built ecotourism accommodation, the proposal would assist with the development of the City of Wanneroo as a sustainable tourism destination.

“This will provide promotion of the City of Wanneroo as a tourist destination to the Western Australian and interstate markets and provide the bookable product needed to convert interest in travel to Quinns Rocks into actual visitation,” he said.

The next stage of the project will see the proponent submit the development application to the Western Australian planning Commission for consideration.
