The City is one step closer to breaking ground on the Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre, after Council gave approval to advertise the business plan for the facility at its February meeting.

The business plan, endorsed by the Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre Working Group, provides an assessment of the proposed development and operation of the facility, including detailed financial modelling and a projected timeline.

In another milestone, Council accepted $25,000,000 in funding for the project, through the Federal Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program.

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said the progression of the business plan and the funding commitment were exciting steps forward for the project.

“Alkimos is expected to be one of Perth’s fastest growing suburbs over the next 20 years and the delivery of the Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre will have a strong positive impact on the City’s future planning for our northern corridor community,” she said.

“We are grateful to the Federal Government for providing funding to help us provide the community with access to this state-of-the-art recreation facility.

“It is fantastic to be entering the next phase of this exciting project and I am looking forward to the completion of the detailed design later this year.”

The business plan will be available for public comment via Your Say, the City’s online community engagement hub, from 29 February 2024.
