Community arts and cultural projects in the Charters Towers region will receive further investment through the second round of the 2023-2024 Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) program.
Round 2 of the RADF program is now open to individuals and organisations meeting the eligibility requirements to assist in fostering their big ideas.
Council highlighted the significant role played by the RADF partnership between the Queensland Government and Charters Towers Regional Council in supporting local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Council encourages locals to contemplate potential art or cultural initiatives for the Charters Towers region, urging those with ideas for artistic projects, events, or activities to engage in discussions for guidance.
Emphasising the rich history and culture of the region, Council hoped to see these aspects captured artistically.
RADF aims to provide public value for Queensland communities, enhance local cultural capacity, foster cultural innovation and community wellbeing, and align with the Queensland Government's community objectives.
The funding for the 2023-2024 rounds focuses on local priorities including projects that strengthen communities, share stories, celebrate history, activate local spaces, and elevate First Nations art.
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the Queensland Government’s successful, long-term partnership with local governments through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) supports the delivery of hundreds of arts experiences, employment opportunities, and capacity building for arts and cultural workers across the state.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthen local communities and drive economic outcomes through arts and culture, the Queensland Government has provided $2.184 million for RADF 2023-24 to 59 local councils who have contributed a co-investment of $1.979 million,” Minister Enoch said.
“The Queensland Government’s Creative Together 2020-2030 roadmap prioritises activation of Queensland’s places and spaces and arts engagement that drives positive change for Queensland communities. Projects funded through RADF support communities to share stories and creativity, provide important pathways for learning and connection, and boost local creative economies and tourism.”
It is noted that Round 2 funding will close on March 25, 2024, with Council urging the community to submit projects aligning with RADF priorities, contributing to both local development and the town's overall well-being.
