In a transformative collaboration between passionate community members and the local Shire, the Kambalda Community is proud to announce the establishment of the Kambalda Community Garden, a vibrant hub aimed at fostering community spirit and sustainable living.
This remarkable journey began in 2022 when two dedicated residents, Morgan and Yvette, envisioned a space where the community could come together to cultivate shared experiences and nurture the land. Their unwavering commitment led them to approach the Shire with their idea, igniting a chain of events that has now blossomed into a thriving community project.
The Kambalda Community Garden Committee, formed by enthusiastic residents, worked diligently to present a comprehensive Business Plan and proposed map to the Shire. After becoming officially incorporated, the committee collaborated with the Shire to identify a suitable plot of land that was agreeable to all parties.
The Shire, recognising the value of this community-led initiative, allocated $50,000 to the project from Non-Rate Revenue streams. This funding was instrumental in securing the area with a robust fence and installing essential infrastructure such as water, power, and flood lighting, ensuring the land was primed and ready for the next phase.
A significant milestone was reached when the Community User Agreement (CUA) was signed on the 12 January 2024 between the Shire and the committee.
Shire President, Malcolm Cullen, extends his commendation to the Kambalda Community Garden Committee for their tireless dedication to the project. Mr Cullen said “the committee's extensive research, visits to other community gardens, and successful fundraising efforts have played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life. We encourage and support such community minded individuals and initiatives and are proud supporters of the project”The Kambalda Community Garden promises a multitude of benefits for residents, including:
