As the curtains fall on “The Pool”, an innovative poolside play written by Steve Rodgers and presented in association with Perth Festival at Bold Park Aquatic Centre, the Town of Cambridge alongside Black Swan State Theatre Company of WA herald the immense success of this pioneering production. The opening night on 11 February was attended by guests of Black Swan, Perth Festival and Town attendees including CEO Gary Tuffin, Councillor Jane Cutler, Mayor Gary Mack, Councillor Gavin Foley, Councillor Kate Barlow, Bold Park Aquatic Manager Tamara Sanders, and Councillor Susan Kennerly, to celebrate the collaborative production.
Mayor Gary Mack reflected on the event's impact, stating, “The Pool has not only showcased the diverse talent from both within and beyond our community but also highlighted Bold Park Aquatic as a landmark of cultural and recreational significance. This innovative production has united our community in a celebration of art, nature, and the human spirit, demonstrating the universal power of storytelling to connect us all.”
The unique setting of Bold Park Aquatic Centre, paired with the immersive experience afforded by personal headsets, allowed audiences to become intimately acquainted with the unfolding narratives, making "The Pool" a standout event that garnered widespread acclaim. Its innovative approach to theatre not only entertained but also sparked conversations about the role of public spaces in fostering community bonds.
The production's unique setting and immersive experience captivated audiences, earning it rave reviews and solidifying its status as a must-see event. The Town of Cambridge thanks all who contributed to the success of “The Pool” and the nearly 8000 attendees over 15 shows.
