Pop-up playgroup sessions planned

Families with children aged 0-5 years are invited to attend four pop-up playgroup sessions occurring at Cohuna and Kerang this month.

Organised by Gannawarra Shire Council’s Children’s Services team, these sessions will enable families to come together for a free morning of indoor and outdoor play activities.

“Playgroups are a great way for young children, parents and families to come together to learn and develop through informal play activities and social interaction,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Children will enjoy taking part in various activities, such as story time, sensory play, music and craft, whilst family members will be able to connect socially.”

Families in attendance will also be able to learn about the popular smalltalk Supported Playgroup program, which provides families with strategies to assist children develop at home.

“The smalltalk Supported Playgroup program uses everyday opportunities and activities that many parents already do in their hole to enhance their child’s learning and development,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Whether it is talking, reading, listening, reading or playing, these tasks all assist in a child’s development.

“The smalltalk program also focuses on parents, including looking after themselves and building links with the local community and services.”
