Kervins Road bridge 30-tonne load limit imposed

Motorists who use the Kervins Road bridge that spans Barr Creek west of Cohuna are advised that a 30-tonne limit will be in place until a replacement concrete structure is constructed.

Gannawarra Shire Council, which manages the structure, recently completed a public tender for the replacement of the structure and will determine the successful application at a future Council Meeting.

“Some possible issues with the bridge were identified during a recent routine inspection, whilst a detailed investigation found that some of the bridge’s structural components had reduced capacity,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“It was recommended that Council carry out remedial works which have been recently completed, and a load limit of 30 tonnes be applied.”

Motorists whose loads are larger than 30 tonnes are requested to use Cohuna-McMillans Road, Western Road and Murray Valley Highway to access either side of Kervins Road.

“Council thanks motorists for the understanding whilst this load limit is in place and looks forward to being able to announce the construction of a new structure in the near future,” Mr Rollinson said.
