Charters Towers Regional Council will be commencing the biannual baiting campaign utilising 1080 Poison, set to take place across the region from 22 April to 27 May 2024.
The use of 1080 baits form a crucial part of Council’s strategy to manage wild dog and feral pig populations, which pose a significant threat to agriculture, livestock and vegetation in the area.
Council organises controlled baiting campaigns twice a year to enhance the efficacy of wild dog and feral pig control efforts.
This baiting initiative is a direct response to reports received by Council regarding attacks on small livestock.
By distributing baits over a wide geographic area at strategic times during breeding cycles, the aim is to achieve maximum impact.
The ongoing collaboration and cooperation of property owners in supporting this campaign is crucial for its effectiveness and for addressing wild dog related concerns.
“It's important to note that wild dog management is not exclusive to the Charters Towers Region, and we will continue to advocate for solutions that do not burden ratepayers”, said Council.
