Pedestrian Access Restored Across Mt Lewis Road Bridge
Mareeba Shire Council is delighted to announce that pedestrian access has been restored across Bushy Creek on Mt Lewis Road. The installation of a gravel vehicle parking area, on the northern side of creek, will follow shortly.
Bushy Creek Bridge on Mt Lewis Road was washed away during flooding associated with Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. Regaining pedestrian access is the first step of the rebuild and Council will continue to work on the permanent bridge replacement to restore vehicle access. Assistance with these works is being provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Council would like to thank the owners of the privately owned farmland who provided access to install a temporary track for residents to gain access to Mt Lewis Road from Chapmans Road.
We would like to thank the community for their patience as Cyclone Jasper repairs continue across the Shire.
