Council Celebrates Milestones in Mid-Year Review

Published on 08 March 2024

Edward River Council’s latest Delivery Program progress report spanning July through December 2023 reports that almost 70% of Council’s planned actions are either already completed or on track for delivery at this six-month mark.

The mid-year progress report was presented to Councillors at the Council meeting on 20 February and is a crucial opportunity for them to monitor the progress against these commitments that are laid out in the annual Operational Plan and Delivery Program; and ensure that goals are met in a timely and efficient manner.

Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of several actions and the attainment or exceeding of several key targets during the reporting period, including:

Delivery of the annual golden perch and Murray cod restocking program at Billabong Creek, with 27,000 fingerlings released in November 2023. 100% of Planning Certificates and Development Certificates issued within 5 days of applications, exceeding the 90% target. Completion of an upgraded runway and new lighting at the airport. Funding application lodged to establish a Murray Cluster Country University Centre Successful running of the stunning and well-attended Lights on the Lagoon event with community partners. Use of the Deniliquin Town Hall as a multi-use, community cultural space, exceeding the target of 8 events. Completion of 100% of the scheduled inspections and maintenance program of local boat ramps and associated parking areas. Taking part in the Regional Recovery Program to support the community's flood recovery efforts.

Chief Executive Officer of Edward River Council, Phil Stone says that much has been achieved in the six-month period. “Council has committed to delivering a significant number of projects and initiatives over and above what we consider business as usual for our community this financial year, and we are well on the way to delivering on those obligations. This is great news for continued community growth and sustainability in Edward River,” said Mr Stone.
