Families will be able to learn about the importance of bees to our ecosystem during two Gannawarra Library Service-hosted events this April.
The library service has teamed up with Friends with Honey for two free special events occurring at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library on Monday, 8 April.
“The Gannawarra Library Service school holiday program is renowned for providing unique experiences for families to interact and learn more about the world around us,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“This bee-themed day of event enhances this, with children and adults able to enjoy various activities whilst learning about how important bees are to our lives.”
The first of two workshops, designed for children aged 3-7 years will occur from 10.30am, with children able to learn about the fascinating world of bees. This one-hour Friends with Honey session will focus on how bees communicate through dance, pollinate plants, and produce honey through interactive activities.
“This workshop will be a fantastic opportunity for young families across Gannawarra to come together and to introduce children to the wonders of the natural world through the captivating lens of bees,” Mr Rollinson said.
The fun will continue at 2pm with a Bee for Biodiversity session. Designed for people aged eight years of age and older, this workshop will delve into the captivating and biodiverse world of bees and explore ways to support these vital pollinators. Highlights will include learning about the differences between native Australian bees and European honeybees, exploring beehives and honey tastings.
“Whether you're a seasoned gardener, a wildlife lover, or simply someone eager to learn, this workshop offers valuable knowledge and inspiration,” Mr Rollinson said.
Bookings for both sessions are essential, with all children under the age of 10 participating to be accompanied by an adult. For bookings or for more information, please phone (03) 5452 1546 or visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au/events
These workshops are supported by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
