With over 20,000 visitor enquiries each year at our accredited visitor information centre (VIC), we are always looking for extra help.
Council is looking to strike gold, while recruiting new volunteer tourism ambassadors for the upcoming tourism season.
The VIC is a vital hub of information and support, for both visitors and locals, playing a crucial role in organising itineraries and booking diverse experiences for visitors, school and group tours, and cruise ship visitors.
Council describes the volunteers as the heart and soul of the VIC, being responsible for greeting visitors and providing information about the greater Charters Towers region.
Having volunteers of all ages and backgrounds is invaluable for the VIC, allowing each volunteer to contribute their own knowledge and experiences to bring a personal touch to the Centre, making it a wealth of information.
“Many volunteers find being a tourism ambassador an opportunity to socialise and stay active”, a Council spokesperson said.
“It is an avenue for locals to share their years of knowledge and insights, and a path for new residents to integrate into the community and make lasting connections.”
The Visitor Information Centre is currently recruiting volunteers, interested in the community, travel and meeting new people.
“If you or someone you know is looking to build skills in customer service or tourism, and have a desire to assist visitors to unearth the secrets of our region, this role may be for you.
“No experience is necessary, and with flexible shift arrangements this really is a role that can suit anyone.”
For more information or to apply, visit or phone the VIC during opening hours on 4761 5533, or visit visitcharterstowers.com.au.
